About GéNIA, the Founder of Piano-Yoga®

With the 2020 masterclasses well under way, we here at Piano-Yoga® thought we’d take the opportunity to tell you a little more about the founder of Piano-Yoga®, concert pianist and composer, GéNIA.

GéNIA began playing piano at the very young age of 4, taught initially by her great-grandmother, the renowned pedagogue, pianist Regina Horowitz. After studying piano for many years in her native Ukraine, GéNIA won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where she was able to further hone her skills surrounded by equally ambitious students. Upon completion of her training at the Guildhall, she went on to study a master’s degree at the prestigious Trinity College of Music. Following the traditional career path for someone with such extensive training, GéNIA began to make her name as a concert pianist. She made her debut as a solo concert pianist in the Park Lane Group Artist Series, which was followed by tours of the UK, Europe and in America.

After a number of years performing at incredible venues such as the Southbank Centre and the Barbican, GéNIA made the bold move away from the classical concert platform on which she had spent many years. Since then, she has collaborated with a wide range of artists and has made her name as an innovative and fresh composer. GéNIA has gone from strength to strength with 2019 being a big year: GéNIA had her compositions placed in major television series (BBC’s America Killing Eve , ITV’s hit series Cold Feet and, recently, another ITV series Sticks and Stones); GéNIA was also nominated for the future classic women awards, played numerous concerts (her London venues included The Other Palace and Shoreditch Treehouse, to name just a few) and released two albums in one year. The first album was Babylon, released on the 29th of March 2019 and the second, released exactly 8 months later (29th November 2019) was Memory Waves which was commissioned by Universal Production Music under the Chappell label. Both albums can be streamed on all major music platforms and Babylon can be downloaded from GéNIA’s new website.
